Seafarer
Jobs or Jobs at ship is considered as a glamorous one, especially by young
people. But they should know some unsaid things about life onboard ship.
Seafarers
come from all over the world, from different cultures and backgrounds, and work
in diverse areas of the shipping industry.
A
Seafarer's Job or Jobs at ship is a hard and sometimes lonely life, without
family and far from friends. A long way from home, cut off from normal life on
shore for months, even years. Most seafarers stay 3 to 9 months on one vessel,
depending on their contract.
Not
in every port you'll find a phone booth to call your relatives, wife and
children but fortunately nowadays there are mobile phones. However, if you're
out of simcard-credit it's hard to get an up-grade because most ships stay
ashore for just a few hours, so no way you can go shopping. It's a tough life
and not without danger.
All
seafarers need to have good education and they need to have a lot of knowledge
about their ship before they can come onboard to act in case of emergency.
I
would call upon their families to Never forget what
Seafarer is sacrificing for their bread and butter.
Entertainment onboard ship:
Seafarer
enjoys each others company off duty. Drinking beer, watching movies, sometimes
smoking, and enjoying games of dice and cards, telling tales, playing musical
instruments, carving, drawing and practicing knots are the main source of
entertainment.
Nothing compares to the sight of moonlight reflecting
on waves, sunrise and sunset from a ship.
